3 Best Camping Locations for Surfing in the US
Anastasia State Park, Florida
Anastasia State Park, Florida: With more than 1,600 acres of beaches, tidal marshes, maritime hammocks and ancient sand dunes, Anastasia State Park is open year-round and offers 139 camping sites. This State Park is a haven for visitors and wildlife alike. There is an abundance of birds including Osprey and Eagles to look out for! And surfing is listed on the park’s website as one of the main experiences to be involved in whilst you enjoy your stay. This Park has some of the better surfing on the East Coast of Florida, with four miles of beach break. Surfers wear trunks or bathing suits in the summer months, but wetsuits are recommended when the water and air temperatures are colder. The Island Beach Shop and Grill provides ocean and beach equipment and there are also local surf shops located throughout the park if you are missing any equipment. Entering the water is of course at your own risk, but always make sure to check warnings posted in the area.
Our Dome and Tunnel Tents are the perfect option for larger groups and longer stays. These tents are ideal for a good night's sleep as you are cut off from nature’s elements. They are also secure, breathable, and noise dampening. What more could you want? The polycotton used in the tent’s inner lining and flysheet is fully breathable, and the waterproof TPU laminate on the flysheet’s underside stops condensation. How good does this sound?
Freeman Park, North Carolina
Freeman Park, North Carolina: Freeman Park is a stretch of shoreline that is well known for its adventurous 4x4 truck owners. Unlike many other beach stretches, this park is unique because it allows beach driving and off-roaders. This Park has picturesque sunsets and is a great spot for surfing as well. Camping on the beach comes with a lot of rules, so make sure to check these out before you head on out.
Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland
Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland: Want to live life on the edge? Assateague Island is home to sandy beaches, salt marshes, maritime forests and coastal bays. You can relax and enjoy some time at the very edge of the continent. With 37 miles of beaches, the Assateague Island National Seashore has two camping areas in the open inner-dunes. Assateague is a raw surfing experience, but be careful of the strong currents, as these may exist! If you are looking for other activities to do whilst you are in this area, then fear not, there are plenty! You could take a hike, bike, go horseback riding, crabbing, fishing or even go for a swim. First-time visitors should stop at the visitors center to explore their options on this seashore to make sure they aren’t missing out on any seasonally planned guided programs.
Find any camping surfing spots you like the sound of? We think that these East Coast spots are the ideal weekend break or even perfect for a longer stay with family and friends.
